Materials Used in Generators

The materials primarily used in generators can be categorized as follows:

 

Conductive Materials:

Copper: Offers excellent electrical conductivity and is a commonly used conductor material in generators.
Aluminum: Although its conductivity is slightly lower than that of copper, it is less expensive and is sometimes used as a conductor material.
Copper-Aluminum Alloy: Combines the advantages of both copper and aluminum, offering a balance of conductivity and cost-effectiveness.
Silver: Possesses superior electrical conductivity but is rarely used in large-scale projects due to its high cost.


Insulating Materials:

Fiberglass: Offers good insulation properties and mechanical strength; frequently used in generator insulation structures.
Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC): A common plastic material that also provides good insulation.
Non-vulcanized rubber or plastic blends: These materials are also used to provide electrical insulation, ensuring the safe operation of the generator.


Other Composite Materials:

These materials may be used for specific structural or functional components-such as for transmitting electromagnetic torque or reducing frictional resistance-but they generally do not serve as the primary conductive or insulating materials of the generator.
